Governments of France and Kazakhstan sign note of intent to develop strategic partnership

Today at the Government’s House in Astana, Prime Minister Karim Massimov of Kazakhstan and Prime Minister Francois Fillon of France signed a note of intent to proceed with setting up of strategic partnership.

“Today we have signed a note of intent to develop strategic partnership. We hope that President N. Nazarbayev’s visit to France and President N. Sarkozy’s visit to Kazakhstan early next year will result in signing of respective agreement between the two nations”, Mr. Fillon said following the talks.

Prime Minister of France noted that the relations between the two countries hold much promise.

“We welcome the upcoming chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE in 2010”, Mr. Fillon added.

“[Kazakhstan’s] President has commissioned his Government to elaborate a “Path to Europe” Program. This Program is under way: Europe represented by the Prime Minister of France and the French delegation is a welcome guest here in Kazakhstan”, the Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov noted.

“Given the French Presidency in the EU in the second half of 2008, we are grateful to France for its support; there’s a range of issues that we could bring to life together”, Karim Massimov said following the talks.
