Kazakhstan and Norway sign MoU
At the Government’s House in Astana Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov met HRH Crown Prince Haakon Magnus of Norway.
At the meeting, Kazakhstan’s Vice Foreign Minister Konstantin Zhigalov and Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre signed an MoU on behalf of the two foreign ministries.
Diplomatic relations between the two nations were established Jun 5, 1992.
Bilateral trade turnover in 2008 made up USD 743.1 million, with exports standing at USD 48.1 million and imports making up USD 695 million. Trade turnover for Jan-Nov 2009 made up USD 275 million, with exports standing at USD 7.2 million and imports making up USD 267.8 million.
From 1993 to 2008 the inflow of FDI from Norway to Kazakhstan’s economy totaled USD 80.2 million. Some Norwegian companies, including Statoil, Norsk Hydro, Telenor International, are presented in Kazakhstan.
