Kazakhstan Defense Ministry Discusses Naval Forces Development Draft Program
The Draft Program of Kazakh Naval Forces Development up to 2025 was discussed in Astana, presided over by the Kazakh Defense Minister Daniyal Akhmetov.
The Draft Program of Kazakh Naval Forces Development up to 2025 was discussed in Astana, presided over by the Kazakh Defense Minister Daniyal Akhmetov.
As Rear-admiral Ratmir Komratov, commander of the Zapad (West) High Command Reserve said, the program implementation was divided into three stages: 2007-2010, 2011-2015 and 2016-2025.
The package of major measures provided by the Program comprises staged equipping of the Kazakh Naval Forces with warships, construction of onshore infrastructure to ensure safety of the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea and safety of strategic facilities.
When discussing the Naval Forces Development Draft Program, D. Akhmetov instructed within a week’s time to provide comprehensive substantiation of the proposed changes into the Naval Forces structure. It was also pointed out that planned acquisition of warships for the Naval Forces should take into account adequacy of the warship types to possible security threats; and equipping of the vessels with armaments should take into account the overall procurement plan.
D. Akhmetov stressed that the orders to manufacture military crafts of smaller displacement will be placed with the Kazakhstan-based Zenith JSC enterprise.
