A special sitting on e-government presided over by the Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov was held today at the Government House in Astana.

Kuanyshbek Esekeev, President of the Kazakh Agency for Informatization and Communications, reported that all the infrastructure facilities under the state-program of e-government development for 2005-2007 will be put in place in the current year. According to him, “a number of e-government components have already been put in place, including the e-government Gateway, system of videoconferencing, document management system, databases, dedicated web-portal and some others”.

The e-government portal was launched in April 2006. By to the end of 2007, the portal will be able to provide about 900 information services.

When summarizing the results, Prime Minister noted that “there had been much work done; however, no tangible results under the e-government projects can be seen so far. There should be a national integrating body established”.

Following the sitting, a decision was reached to form a working group for promotion of the e-government. The said group will be headed by Serik Burkitbayev, Aide to the President; K. Esekeev has been appointed to be his assistant.
