Kazakhstan ranks 7th in grain exports

Last year, the volume of agricultural produce exports and foodstuffs hit record high of USD 1.3 billion. This was announced by Akhmetzhan Esimov, Agriculture Minister, at a government sitting held today in the Government House.



Last year, the volume of agricultural produce exports and foodstuffs hit record high of USD 1.3 billion. This was announced by Akhmetzhan Esimov, Agriculture Minister, at a government sitting held today in the Government House.

According to A. Esimov, grain accounted for the major share. With 6.2 million tons, Kazakhstan ranks 7th in the world in grain exports and 3rd in flour exports, the Minister said.

According to the Minister, for the last year, the overall number of cattle grew by 5% on average; livestock products output grew by the same figure.

For the last 4 years, about USD 1 billion has been invested into agriproduct processing. In 2006, gross agricultural output grew by 7% to reach KZT 838 billion. Rural population income grew by 23%. In 2006 alone, 86 thousand new jobs were created; while the figure for the last four years made up over 400 thousand jobs.

For the last 5 years, budget allocations for the agriculture development made up KZT 205 billion, while private investments totaled KZT 800 billion. Second-tier banks allocated credits worth KZT 337 billion.
