The Kazakh Senate Committee for Statehood Building and Policy of Law approved the draft law on amending some legislative acts covering issues of unclaimed property amnesty prepared by the Kazakh Justice Ministry.
The said draft law seeks to extend the unclaimed property amnesty campaign to August 1, 2007. According to Justice Minister Zagipa Balieva, for the second ten-day period of February alone the Committee for Unclaimed Property Legalization was submitted about 180000 applications.
”Taking into account the task set by the President to have as many citizens involved as possible, it is expedient to extend the campaign, especially given its non-recurring nature”, the Minister said.
As of March 7, 2007, the fees (set at 10% of the property value) collected from those willing to be granted amnesty totaled KZT 7.7 billion.
