Head of Kazakh Environmental Ministry Meets ENI Leaders

Minister of Environment Nurlan Iskakov met leaders of ENI, Kashagan operator.

Concerns over Agip KCO’s operations raised by the Environmental Protection Ministry in the middle of last year and well as concerns voiced by Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture are being attended to by the company.

According to the Agricultural Ministry, the Committee for Fishery and Agip KCO agreed upon a number of issues concerned with compensation of damage inflicted to fish resources and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

While matters concerned with management of sulfur remain acute in Kazakhstan. To solve the problem of storage and utilization of sulfur the company held a meeting with representatives of the Environmental Protection Ministry, Energy Ministry and KazMunaiGaz to discuss a renewed marketing plan, sulfur management strategy and ways to use sulfur in agriculture. The mentioned above documents will be completed with due consideration of comments voiced during the meeting and will be officially submitted to the authorities.

Besides, in accordance with information made available, processing of sulfur-containing gas and storage of sulfur is foreseen only for the period of experimental-industrial development of Kashagan. During further stages of the oilfield development it is planned to reinject 100% of the hydrogen sulfide back into the wells.

President of Exploration and Production Department at Eni SpA Stefano Kao proposed implementation of joint projects with the Environment Ministry aimed at ensuring sustainable development; the Ministry supported the proposal.
