Prime Minister Karim Massimov introduces ministers newly appointed by President Nazarbayev
Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov introduced new ministers appointed by President Nazarbayev as part of a broader campaign to reorganize some ministries and public agencies.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been abolished and its trade-related functions have been transferred to the newly established Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. Besides, some functions of the abolished ministry will be carried out by the newly established Ministry of Industry and New Technology. Mr. Aset Issekeshev, earlier holding the position of Minister of Industry and Trade, now combines functions of Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technology.
When introducing the newly established Minister of Oil and Gas - Mr. Sauat Mynbayev - (earlier served as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources), K. Massimov emphasized that “Head of State has set a clear goal for the Oil and Gas Ministry - that is protection of the state’s interests in hydrocarbon projects; and the new Ministry has been vested with all the required powers… while the function of regulating the power industry, nuclear industry and some other related industries has been transferred to the new Ministry of Industry and New Technology”.
The Prime Minister has also introduced Ms. Zhanar Aitzhanova – head of the newly established Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The Minister has been commissioned to develop internal and external trade with due consideration of the Customs Union (comprising Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus) and keep on work on accession into the WTO.
The Prime Minister has also instructed Culture Minister Mukhtar Kul-Mukhamed on his new functions: from now on the Culture Ministry is responsible to enforce freedom of belief (earlier a responsibility of the Justice Ministry), interact with religious organizations and promote the Kazakh language.
The Prime Minister has introduced Mr. Askar Zhumagaliev, head of the new Ministry of Communications and Information (established on the basis of the State Agency for Informatization and Communications) and outlined a range of tasks related to regulation of the information field, introduction of new IT, digital and satellite broadcasting.
