PM Karim Masimov: Customs Union has truly established itself as an entity
A joint press-conference of Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov, Russian Head of Government Mr. Vladimir Putin and Belarus Prime Minister Mr. Mikhail Myasnikovich was held following a sitting of the EurAsEC interstate council in Minsk, Belarus.
When answering journalists’ questions, PM Karim Massimov noted that “all the issues have been resolved for the customs borders between Kazakhstan and Russia to be removed… passport control is still to be there, but we have decided to establish a special working group to simplify passport control and visa procedures…I want to emphasize that the Customs Union has truly established itself as an entity”.
“The supranational body [the Customs Union Commission] has been working extremely effectively; it has managed to find balance between national and the Union’s interests and our economies have seen a good payback”, he said when commenting on the Customs Union Commission.
“At the governmental level, we have agreed today to hold consultations on the global economic issues… All that is happening in the wake of the earthquake in Japan, events in North Africa and Middle East has a great impact on the global economy…”, Mr. Massimov said.
The Customs Union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus came into existence on January 1, 2010 to boost trade and investment.
The Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Community, the highest body of the customs union between Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, met March 15 in Minsk.
