Turkey welcomes Kazakhstan’s readiness to start construction of an oil refinery in the Turkish territory. This was announced today by Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul of Turkey.

He made this statement at a press-conference following his meeting with Marat Tazhin, Kazakhstan Foreign Minister, who is currently on his official visit to Turkey. During the meeting, the sides focused on energy cooperation, to which Turkey attaches great importance, Abdullah Gul said. In particular, the sides discussed oil supplies via the Akatau-Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route and construction of the Baku-Tbilisi gas pipeline.

In January 2007, reps of the KazMunaiGaz Kazakhstan National Oil Company had visited Turkey to discuss possible construction of an oil refinery in Turkey.
