Kazakhstan’s PM Karim Massimov meets Adriaan van der Meer, Head of the European Commission's Representation in Kazakhstan and Central Asia

Later the same day PM K. Massimov met representatives of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), including its director general Bernard Vallat.

Today at the Government’s House in Astana, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov met Adriaan van der Meer, Head of the European Commission's Representation in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

The sides pointed out that a solid foundation had been laid in bilateral relations, enabling to further develop cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU.

A. van der Meer expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Kazakhstan for support rendered to his mission.

Besides, he announced an official visit of EU trade commissioner Peter Mendelson to Kazakhstan in June to discuss issues related to Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO.

“I hope we will be able to finalize negotiations on Kazakhstan’s accession to the organization”, A. van der Meer said.

Later the same day PM K. Massimov met representatives of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), including its director general Bernard Vallat.

The parties discussed Kazakhstan’s involvement in the organization’s activities.

The Prime Minister made a presentation of the National Veterinary Service of Kazakhstan and briefed on its role in maintenance of epizootic well-being and animal products safety.

K. Massimov pointed out that coordination and interaction within the OIE provide Kazakhstan with additional opportunities to bring its veterinary science in compliance with internationally accepted standards.

The sides discussed prospects of Kazakhstan’s involvement into the OIE initiatives. In particular, they dwelt on possibilities of holding international conferences for experts from European countries and Central Asia in the territory of Kazakhstan.

The Prime Minister said that the meeting would contribute to setting up of a veterinary strategy at the threshold of Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO.

In the course of the meeting of K. Massimov with John Malcom Ordway, US Ambassador to Kazakhstan, and Kenneth Mack, Head of the US Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, the parties discussed prospects of development of Kazakh-US cooperation through public-private partnership mechanisms.

K. Massimov noted that “the Kazakh-US PPP initiative would contribute to development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the longer run”.

The sides reiterated their interest in launching the program involving the government and business community.

When closing the meeting, the sides expressed confidence that the launch of the Kazakh-US PPP initiative would bring the economic interaction between the two nations to a higher level.
