At his Germany-based residence, the Kazakh Ambassador to Germany hosted a reception for German officials and business reps.
The event was attended by Bundestag deputies, reps of German ministries and agencies, those of economic and political organizations, largest German banks and banks operating in Kazakhstan, Kazakh honorary consuls to Germany, and reps of the media.
In an unofficial environment, acute issues of cooperation were discussed in the realms of economy and politics as well as humanitarian cooperation following the visit of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Germany in January 2007 and in the light of the Kazakh President’s Address to the Nation [titled] “New Kazakhstan in the Modern World”.
In his speech, Kazakhstan Ambassador to Germany Kairat Sarybai informed that for the last three years the bilateral trade turnover had increased 2,5 times to reach Euro 4,7 billion in 2006. He also informed on successful implementation of joint projects in various sectors of the Kazakh economy. Besides, he noted that Kazakhstan investors have been also injecting their funds into the German economy.
Dr. Karl-Ernst Brauner, German Federal Vice Minister of Economy and Technology, and K. Zöllner, Head of the Association of Entrepreneurs of East and Central Europe, were among the other speakers.
Dr. Karl-Ernst Brauner pointed out to the importance of the meeting of the Kazakh President with reps of political and business circles of Germany in the course of his visit to Germany for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation to diversify and modernize the Kazakh economy. He stressed that the German Government supports the Kazakh bid to chair the OSCE in 2009 and extends its support to Kazakhstan on accession to the WTO.
The German side is interested in expanding energy cooperation with Kazakhstan, Dr. Karl-Ernst Brauner pointed out. Besides, the German Government represented by the Ministry of Economy and Technology is ready to act as guarantor related to credits to be extended to German investments projects to diversify the Kazakh national economy. In this context he called up the German businessmen to be actively participating in such projects in Kazakhstan. Dr. Brauner reiterated that M. Gloss, Federal Minister of Economy and Technology, intends to pay a working visit to Kazakhstan in late October with an accompanying German delegation.
K. Zöllner confirmed readiness of German businessmen to invest and transfer technology to promising sectors of the Kazakh economy. He noted that the internal stability in Kazakhstan guarantees further investments of German capital into the Kazakh economy.
Leila Syzdykova, a Kazakh violinist currently studying in Dresden, performed for the guests.
