Committee for Enhancement of the Language Policy holds a sitting chaired by Kazakhstan Prime Minister Karim Massimov

The State Committee for Language policy held its regular sitting chaired by the Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov. At the sitting, heads of central and local executive power bodies reported on implementation of the language policy and of the State Program for Languages Development.

According to Justice Minister Zagipa Balieva, “as of today over 12 000 employees of the Ministry have taken special Kazakh language course”. The State Program is being also effectively introduced in the Emergency Ministry. According to Emergency Minister Viktor Khrapunov, all the documents turnover will be transferred to the Kazakh language as early as by next year.

”The interest in learning the Kazakh language is growing. It’s important to take further steps in this direction”, said Sergei Dyachenko, Vice Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis (lower chamber). In his turn, Kuanysh Sultanov, Senator and Vice Chair of the Committee for Enhancement of the Language Policy, noted that “the work of the ad-hoc committee initiated by Kazakhstan Prime Minister Karim Massimov is already bringing fruit. Personal attitude of the Prime Minister to the issues of the Kazakh language development is also bringing great effect”. To further enhance the state language policy, Majilis deputy Bekbolat Tleukhan suggested establishing a national ethnographic park, his proposal was welcomed by the Prime Minister.

Members of the Committee also dwelt on issues of financial incentives for non-Kazakh state officials who have high command of Kazakh and on results of the Education Ministry’s work to study foreign practices of shifting to Roman letters in other Turkophone countries.
