”112” emergency service phone number will be launched as a pilot project in Astana, said Kazakhstan Prime Minister Karim Massimov at a Government sitting.
According to Kuanyshbek Esekeev, Head of the Agency for Informatization and Communications, this emergency service phone number could be launched all over Kazakhstan in 1-2 years’ time. As this service calls for specially-trained operators and technical coordination, the Prime Minister suggested launching the service as a pilot project in Astana; later on it will be introduced all over the country.
The Government also considered major issues of reforming and enhancing of emergency prevention and liquidation systems. According to the Emergency Minister Viktor Khrapunov, for the first 4 months of the current year the number of those killed in emergencies decreased by 11%, while the level of fatal traumatism at enterprises with hazardous conditions dropped by 30%. The number of cases of the Emergency Service rescue teams’ attendance to those in emergency situations has grown more than twice for the last five years; over 115 thousand people have been rescued. The Minister pointed to some problems hampering effective accomplishment of tasks to rescue people. These are lack of special equipment, obsolete aircraft fleet and etc.
