Kazakhstan and South Korea sign bilateral agreements following the leader’s talks

Following the official meeting of President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan and President Lee Myung-Bak of South Korea the two nations signed an Action Plan to expand bilateral cooperation.

On the Kazakh side, the agreement was signed by Minister of Industry and Trade Vladimir Shkolnik; the South Korean side was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan.

Then the parties signed an agreement on cooperation to construct Balkhash thermal power plant. The document was signed by Kairat Kelimbetov, President of the Samruk-Kazyna Board, and Vladimir Kim, Chairman of the Kazakhmys Board on behalf of the Kazakhstani side and by KEPCO President Kim Ssang-su and Sung-Ha Chi, Samsung C&T Director, on behalf of South Korea.

“The joint communiqué and the signed Action Plan to expand cooperation are of great importance to us. Specific investment projects will bring our relations to a higher level. I want to single out the agreement between KEPCO and Samruk-Energo to construct the Balkhash thermal power plant. The investments will total USD 4.5 billion”, stated President Nazarbayev at the press-conference following the talks.
