Kazakhstan is a privileged partner for Luxembourg
“Kazakhstan is a strategic partner for the EU and a privileged partner for Luxembourg”, said Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, following his talks with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov in Astana.
At the briefing, both Prime Ministers expressed readiness to increase the bilateral trade turnover.
Thus, in the course of the visit the sides are expected to sign a double tax treaty and discuss possible signing of an agreement to cooperate in air traffic realm.
Besides, Luxembourg offered its help in training of Kazakhstan’s financiers and bankers.
The Luxembourgian PM noted that he was being accompanied by an “imposing delegation” comprising economists, representatives of the Chamber of commerce and industry and businessmen.
“I am confident that the established contacts will serve a solid foundation to further develop [bilateral] ties”, Jean-Claude Juncker said. He invited Head of the Kazakh Government Karim Massmov to visit Luxembourg and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome.
Diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and Kazakhstan were established June 29, 1992. This is the first visit of Jean-Claude Juncker to Kazakhstan.
According to the Kazakhstan’s Agency for Statistics, trade turnover between the two nations for Jan-March 2008 made up USD 3.7 million. Kazakhstan imports Luxembourgian machinery, plastics, rubber, textiles and base metals. Total Luxembourg’s investments into the Kazakh economy stood at USD 103 million at the end of 2007.
