Following the 1st sitting of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Council Heads of Governments of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan issue a joint communiqué
«For Kyrgyzstan, expansion of the economic cooperation with Kazakhstan is of special importance. Despite the global economic crisis, there are positive trends… the trade turnover between the two nations made up USD 600 million in 2008. It is gratifying that Kyrgyzstan has been attractive for Kazakhstan in terms of investments. Kazakhstan’s investments into our economy in 2008 reached USD 333 million…We have insisted on soonest launching of a Kazakh-Kyrgyz investment fund to implement large-scaled joint projects in the territory of Kyrgyzstan. We have also agreed to establish a Committee for Trans-border Cooperation…”, said Prime Minister Igor Chudinov of Kyrgyzstan.
Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov noted that “a reasonable compromise has been reached with regards to the joint Kazakh-Kyrgyz Investment Fund to implement investment projects in the territory of Kyrgyzstan both involving Kazakhstan and those that have nothing to do with Kazakhstan”.
“And we might continue consultations so that industrial and antic-crisis programs currently under way in Kazakhstan could be somehow integrated into your national economy. This will enable to loosen problems caused by the global financial crisis”, PM Massimov said.
“Today we have reached an agreement in principle on long-term supplies of Kazakh grain and oil fuel to neighboring Kyrgyzstan”, Massimov said. “This will enable to widen opportunities for further planning”.
The sides also agreed to retain the current methods of settling issues related to electric power supplies. “We have agreed to adhere to the adopted schemes…so that to effectively address all the issues”, Massimov said.
