Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister meets US Congress delegation headed by House Minority Leader John Boehner
In the course of the meeting the sides discussed further development of bilateral cooperation between the two nations on a wide range of issues.
August 8 at the Government House in Astana Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov met a US Congress delegation headed by House Minority Leader John Boehner.
K. Massimov briefed the delegation on measures taken by the Kazakhstan’s Government to stabilize the national economy, banking sector and financial sector as a whole. Prime Minister noted that measures taken by the US Administration to weaken the recession and regulate its financial sector are of interest to Kazakhstan.
The sides dwelt on the current state of O&G cooperation and work of the joint Kazakh-US Energy Partnership.
Besides, the parties exchanged views on trade-and-economic cooperation, notably Kazakhstan’s accession into the WTO, forming of the Customs Union of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus. Karim Massimov stressed that the Kazakhstan’s Government is interested in soonest possible removal of Kazakhstan from the Jackson-Vanik amendment: this would tackle many issues in bilateral trade-and-economic ties.
The sides touched on security issues in Central Asia, first of all measures to counter drugs trafficking. The sides reiterated readiness to strengthen universal interaction in all the realms of the strategic partnership.
