EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs meeting Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources
EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs met Mr. Sauat Mynbayev, Kazakhstan Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, in Brussels to discuss issues of energy cooperation with due consideration of the recent developments related to the Kashagan project being implemented in the Caspian offshore.
September 20 EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs met Mr. Sauat Mynbayev, Kazakhstan Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, in Brussels to discuss issues of energy cooperation with due consideration of the recent developments related to the Kashagan project being implemented in the Caspian offshore.
“Successful energy cooperation rests on mutual respect, transparency, predictability and exclusion of discrimination. I approved of the Minister’s arguments related to the talks between the Kazakhstan authorities and the Kashagan consortium and hope to be further informed on the issue”, A. Piebalgs said following the meeting.
S. Mynabyev commented on the current talks between the Italian Eni-led consortium and the Kazakh Government on terms of the PSA.
Besides, the EU Energy Commissioner and the Kazakh Minister exchanged their views on the anticipated Kazakhstan’s accession into the WTO and on the recent changes to the EU energy market regulations.
The joint work in energy sector is in line with the MoU in the realm of energy cooperation signed between the EU and Kazakhstan in December 2006.
