Kazakhstan Defense Minister meets NATO's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia
Today, at the Kazakhstan Defense Ministry, Kazakh Minister of Defense Daniyal Akhmetov met Robert Simmons, NATO's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The sides exchanged their opinions on the implementation of Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), including on international security efforts. Both D. Akhmetov and R. Simmons noted that significant progress had been achieved on certain vectors of interaction which was a sign of the cooperation reaching a high level.
Kazakhstan holds regular consultations with NATO and partner countries within the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council which is the political basis for partnership relations. Partnership for peace program being implemented by Kazakhstan allows to define priorities in cooperation, with the interaction being guided by the IPAP.
Cooperation with NATO mainly seeks to transform and modernize the Kazakh army and jointly contribute to regional and global stability. The Kazakh Defense Minister pointed out that there’s a vast potential in cooperation between Kazakhstan and NATO and its unleashing will effectively add to regional and global security through a strengthened dialogue, reforms of the defense sector and training of military personnel.
