Karim K. Massimov

Karim K. Massimov

   Was born in 1965. Graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University, Law School of Wuhan University, and Kazakh State Academy of Management. Holds degrees in international law and economics. Doctor of Science in Economics. Speaks English, Chinese, and Arabic.
Started his professional carrier as Senior Economist at the Ministry of External Economic Ties of the Republic of Kazakhstan; served as Senior Specialist of the China-based representation office of the Kazakh Ministry of External Economic Ties in Urumqi; held position of the Managing Director of the Kazakh Trading House in Hong Kong. Went on to hold positions of the Chairman of the Board of Almaty Trade and Finance Bank and Chairman of the Board of the People’s Savings Bank of Kazakhstan. Was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From January 2006 served as Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From April 2006 - Vice Prime Minister-Minister of Economic Affairs and Budget Planning. Incumbent Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan since January 2007.

Vice Prime Minister

Umirzak Shukeev

Born in 1964. Graduated from the Moscow Economics and Statistics Institute (1986) with a degree in mathematics methods in economics. PhD in economics. Was employed as junior and leading research fellow in a number of research facilities in Almaty. Went on to work as a consultant with the Supreme Economic Council under the President; as an advisor to the President for economic issues; vice head of the Finance, Labor and Social Protection of the Population Department in the Presidential Service and in the Cabinet. In 1993-1995 – deputy head of administration of South Kazakhstan Oblast. Starting from November 1995 – Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Starting from early 1998 – Deputy Head of Presidential Administration. Starting from August 1998 – Governor of Kostanai Oblast. Later he served as Astana city Mayor, then as Governor of South Kazakhstan Oblast. Member of the Supreme Economic Council under the President (February – November 1997), Member of the National Council for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan (November 1997 – August 1998). Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhoil CJSC (March – December 1997). Awarded with “Parsat” Order. Starting from March 2004 – Mayor of Astana City. In September 2006 he was appointed Governor of South Kazakhstan Oblast. In August 2007 appointed Vice-Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Minister of Internal Affairs

Baurzhan A. Mukhamedjanov

Baurzhan A. Mukhamedjanov

Was born in 1960. Graduated from Kirov Kazakhstan State University. PhD in Law.
Worked in the Law Scholl of the Kirov Kazakh State University. Held key positions in the Supreme Soviet staff, Administration of the Kazakhstan President. From 1997 to 2000 held portfolio of the Justice Minister. At different times was appointed Deputy Head of the Administration of the President – Head of Department, Vice Prime Minister, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President.
From October 2005 holds the position of the Minister of Internal Affairs.

Anatoly G. Dernovoi

Anatoly G. Dernovoi

Was born in 1951. Graduated from the Karaganda Medical University. PhD in Medicine. Awarded with the Kazakhstan State Prize.
Worked as Head of Department at a region-level Sanitary Epidemiological Station; sanitary inspector of the Kirovsky district, Taldykorgan oblast; senior state-appointed sanitary inspector of the Almaty oblast.
Held various positions in the public administration bodies; served as Vice Minister of Healthcare – Senior Sanitary Inspector of Kazakhstan.
From December 1996 – Head of the Medical Center with the Presidential Affairs Department.
From September 2006 – Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Born September 1, 1964 in Almaty. Held positions of Vice General President, Director for Administration, Executive Chief of the KazakhOil National Company (1998-99);
Vice Head of Operational Division of the Kazakhstan Prime Minister’s Office (2000-2001);
Vice Minister of Economic Affairs and Trade (May 2001 - August 2002);
Vice Minister of Industry and Trade (September 2002 – July 2003).
Head of the Supervisory Board of the KazakhTelecom National Company (December 1995 – October 1996);
Member of the Board of Directors of the KazPost JSC (2001-03).
From July 2003 – President of the Kazakhstan Engineering National Company.
From January 2007 – Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Minister of Foreign Affairs

Marat M. Tazhin

Marat M. Tazhin

  Was born in 1960 in Akytubinsk. Graduated from Almaty Institute of National Economy, and Graduate School of the Kirov Kazakh State University. Doctor of Social Studies. Professor.
In 1987-1988 took a fellowship program course at London University.
In 1991-1992 was chairman of the Social Studies Department at the Social Studies Teaching Staff Advanced Training Institute with the Al-Farabi Kazakh State University.
From 1992 he held managerial positions in the President’s Staff and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan: First Vice Head, Head of the Internal Politics Department, Deputy Head of the President’s Staff, and Head of the Information and Analysis Center.
In 1994-1995, he served as Counselor of State to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 1995-1999 served as Head of the Administration of the President and Head of the Center for Analysis and Strategic Studies under the Presidential Administration. In 1999-2001 held the position of the National Security Aide to the President– Secretary of the Security Council.
In 2000 he chaired the State Committee for Corruption Control. In 2001 headed the National Security Committee.
In 2002 served as National Security Aide to the President–Secretary of the National Security Committee. From August 2002 to April 2006 held the position of the First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President.
From April 2006 – Aide to the President – Secretary of the National Security Committee.
Awarded with the Kurmet order and two medals.

Minister of Culture and Information

Yermukhamet K. Yertysbayev

Yermukhamet K. Yertysbayev

Born in 1956. Graduated from Karaganda State University. Doctor of political sciences, Professor.
Started his professional career in 1989 as an assistant in Jeskazgan Education Institute. Served with the Soviet Army. In recent years was involved in scientific works and teaching. Between 1990 and 1994 was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic, later he worked as secretary of Political Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of Kazakhstan and advisor to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1998 he was appointed director of Kazakh Institute for Strategic Studies, in 2000 – head of department of Presidential Administration, in 2002 advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In January 2006 he was appointed Minister of Culture, Information and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Since March 2006 – Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Danial K. Akhmetov

Danial K. Akhmetov

Born in 1954. Graduated from Pavlodar Industrial Institute with major in construction engineering. Doctor of Economic sciences. Author of “Regional Specifics in Ensuring Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of Kazakhstan”, Moscow, 2003.
Started his professional career as master workman at a construction site, later worked as head foreman, manager of Ekibastuzshahtostroi Trust, Deputy Chairman of Ekibastuz Municipal Executive Committee, Governor of Ekibastuzenergozhilpromstroi Trust.
In 1992 he was appointed head of Ekibastuz Municipal Administration, later – head of Pavlodar Oblast Administration.
In 1995 appointed Akim (Governor) of Pavlodar Oblast.
Between 1997 and 1999 he served as Akim (Governor) of North-Kazakhstan Oblast.
Between October 1999 and November 2001 – Deputy, First Deputy of Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, later till June 2003 – Akim (Governor) of Pavlodar Oblast.
In June 2003 – appointed Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Since January 2007 – Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Married, two kids.

Zhanseit K. Tuimebayev

Zhanseit K. Tuimebayev

  Born on July 8, 1958. Graduated from the Kirov Kazakh State University (1980), philologist, PhD in Philology, Associated professor. Minister extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the 2nd rank.
September 1999 – appointed Chief of Protocol of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, March 2004 – Advisor to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. February 2006 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.
Since January 2007 appointed Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Minister of Environment Protection

Nurlan A. Iskakov

Nurlan A. Iskakov

Born in 1963. Graduated from Kazakh Polytechnic Institute. Doctor of Economic sciences.
After graduation from the institute gas involved in scientific work, occupied executive posts in commercial structures. Was appointed deputy head of Kalinin regional administration, chairman of the State Committee for Pricing and Anti-Monopoly Policies for Almaty city, Government Comptroller of the Administration of the President, Vice-minister of Environment Protection. In recent time was in charge of department of governmental control and organizational work of the Administration of the President.
Since April 2006 – Minister of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
